Major stages of this cancer -


There are mainly four stages of oral cancer

Stage I - In the first stage, the cancerous tumor is about 2 centimeters or smaller and cancer has not spread to the lymph nodes.

Stage II - In the second stage, the size of the cancerous tumor is between 2 to 4 centimeters and the cancer cells have still not spread to the lymph nodes.

Stage III - In the third stage, the size of the cancerous tumor becomes larger than 4 cm and the cancer cells have spread to the lymph nodes, but have not spread to other parts of the body.

Fourth stage - In the fourth stage, the size of the cancerous tumor increases very much and the cancer cells spread throughout the body apart from the lymph nodes. According to the National Cancer Institute, the survival rate for patients with oral cancer and pharyngeal cancer after the advanced stage of cancer is only five years.

83 percent of patients in whom cancer has not spread to the lymph nodes.

64 percent of patients in whom cancer has spread to nearby lymph nodes.

38 percent of patients in whom cancer has spread to many parts of the body other than the lymph nodes.

Overall, 60 percent of all cancer patients have a life expectancy of around five years. In the earlier stages of oral cancer, the chances of survival after treatment are higher.
